Immediately after taking office in 1985, Katherine Sherrington begin lobbying the Georgia legislature for year-round tag registration. At that time, Georgia was only one of three states without some form of staggered registration. Georgians were being required to stand in 4-8 hour lines during January, February and March to renew their tag registrations!! Not only was it inconvenient but it was ridiculously inefficient and outdated.
After several years of testifying and presenting information from operational efficiency to customer convenience, the legislature finally passed a bill allowing for 4-month staggered registration. By then Georgia was the only state without year round registrations. A few years later, in 1997 the state of Georgia joined the other 49 states in implementing year round tag renewal!!
Katherine was instrumental in influencing Tax Commissioners around the State to support this legislation and a key player in the legislative process.
