Katherine has led the effort to eliminate unnecessary penalties and fees related to tax payments and tag renewals, and to reduce cost to the taxpayers. She was instrumental in eliminating tax return penalties, mail-in fees and sheriff’s fees for delinquent tag renewals. These penalties and fees were only a burden on the taxpayer and did nothing to further county services. Katherine's insight and practical business applications helped the Board of Commissioners and state legislators understand the issues and reduce these onerous burdens on the customer.
Also, in 2006, Katherine led the effort to reduce by more than 50% the fee associated with online tag renewal for Gwinnett residents. The Board of Commissioners agreed to reduce the fee after Katherine expressed her goal of making Internet renewals even more convenient for taxpayers.
